Japanese nut on stabbing spree

Read the recent report on that Jap guy who went on a rampage and stabbed 15 people in Japan?

Although he’s such a brutal monster to have done that, i somehow sympathise with him.

people who have never experienced it before will not know what it feels like to be rejected by society, by friends, or especially by your boyfriend or girlfriend whom you love.  It is equally brutal.

such rejection can accumulate tonnes of hurt and when it is emotionally released, can manifest itself in such violent crimes.

i think the guy needs counselling and mental treatment rather than the death sentence which he is likely to get…

What’s going to happen to Pedra Branca?

Filed under: In Singapore..., Social issues

A friend of mine sent me this edited picture…  It’s meant to be an honest joke.  No offence to anyone, in Singapore or Malaysia.

I find it hilarious..  It’s not just the ERP gantry, but the typical Singaporean way of lamenting.. (”Wah Biang Eh”).  Kudos to the person who photoshoped and invented this picture, very creative indeed!

But seriously, on the Pedra Branca issue.. I’m feeling uneasy.  After donkey years of hammering away in dispute over a small piece of rock, the issue looks set to drag on further.  It’s not the end yet.  Sigh..

Malaysia are now saying they are looking for that lost piece of letter between some colonial British officer and the Johor king… which can prove that Pedra Branca belongs to Johor all the while.

I remember meeting Foreign Minister George Yeo for a dialogue forum back in the 90’s, during which Pedra Branca was one of the issues discussed.. and we were debating how Singapore should handle the issue.  Now some 10 years later, the issue is finally resolved at last.  Or so we think.

Prepare to hear much more about Pedra Branca.  i think the dispute will continue; it’s not the end yet.

Drawing Day 2008

Here I am..promoting…

DRAWING DAY 2008

Drawing Day will be on June 7, 2008. , where we share our artwork with the rest of the world.

I know most of you may not have heard of it. So here’s an explanation of it adapted from the website:

One day a year, the world stops to remember that joy we had when we first picked up a pencil and created our first piece of art - that’s what Drawing Day is all about. The goal for Drawing Day is simple - to create enough drawings to make some noise worldwide for the sake of art. 2008 is the first year of this initiative. Our goal is definitely a long-shot, but we’re aiming for 1 million drawings worldwide. We have no precise measure to know if we reach this goal. If we come close we will all definitely know. Even if we reach 10% of our goal in the first year of this initiative, it will be a great achievement but we will continue aiming for the magic million.

There are many ways you can draw.
Or you can also be one of their supportors and help promote it.

Visit Drawingday.org to find out. =)

ART or NOT?
6 May, 2008, 10:10 pm

LET ME ASK YOU.

Is this an ART?

And it is a DYING dog.
Not a Fake Soft toy.

ART or NOT?

No. I STRONGLY disagree.

It seems that this man, Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, is not right in the head when he thought that getting a dog from the streets (HE PAID THE LOCAL CHILDREN TO DO IT) and then displayed it at a art exibition, and starving the dog to death.

In that event, (in which the dog died) he was chosen to represent his country in the “Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008″. Now, tell me…WHY WAS HE CHOSEN?
To allow Guillermo Habacuc Vargas to represent Costa Rica in Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008 will in no way benefit Costa Rica. The committee who chosen him must be either insane, dog hater or simply has no emotion at all. Or were they bribed??

Nono. Pardon me. I have a wild imagination.

(But how can they be in the right mind to choose him?? It might be bribe then…)

NOTE: I said MIGHT. So I am just drawing my own conclusion. Feel free to add in more suggestions like they might have been striked on the head by lightning or getting blackmailed by Guillermo. You are MOST welcome.

Maybe some people may argue that it is an art. But I can debate back. Furiously.

Taking an unwilling model and against their will, it is not respecting them. It is just trying to use them for your own work.

Maybe you can say the dog couldn’t speak in our language. But in nature, will you starve yourself against your will? Will you want to be chained to the wall, and being stared at by people? Will you be able to stand it when you beg for food by was denied?

The answer is no.
One thing I might add after seeing the peition is one of them gave a brilliant suggestion.

” Why don’t we tie the artist instead?”

A VERY BRILLIANT idea.  Don’t you think?

* * *

For those who want a full story about this crazy animal abuser,
here’s the link: Full Story

For now, I would like to ask you to view and sign this peitition:

Kindly and PLEASE spead this around in your own blogs or emails and stop this “art” and animal abuse.

It will be greatly appreciated. =)

Runaway inflation in Singapore
5 May, 2008, 6:12 pm
Filed under: In Singapore..., Social issues

i don’t believe how inflation is hitting all of us.  i’m not someone who spends a lot, but i can already feel the inflation in Singapore.  it’s terrible!   Even when prices go up in the past, like cuppa coffee up by 10 cents once in a while, it’s fine.  Bus fares going up by 5-10 cents, also fine.

But now, it’s not just a one-off increase.  Its CONTINUOUS increase in prices.  That’s why we are all feeling the pinch!

Another example, a plate of my regular wanton noodles used to be $2.  Sometime last year, they upped the price to $2.50.  I felt ok.  Afterall, they hadn’t raised prices for years.  But guess what?  Today, just a year later, they upped the price to $3.00.

A glass of Coffee-O used to be 60cents.  Late last year, all coffee shops raised it by 10 cents to 70 cents.  The Coffee Shop owners Association justified it by saying that they had not raised prices for 7-8 years.  Ok, fair enough.

But last week, they raised it AGAIN !!  Coffee-O is now 80 cents!

What’s happening???  Price increase is understandable and fine.  But not REPEATED price increases within a short period of time !!

The Singapore goverment made a serious mistake.  They failed to foresee high inflation around the corner.  And they raised GST from 5% to 7% in July 2007.–  serious mistake.  Very grave mistake.  We will all pay for that mistake…

The Singapore government should not have raised GST when inflation is suring upwards.  It’s the wrong time.  You don’t need to be an economics professor to know that.  It’s downright shows poor foresight, poor planning.

At the very least, couldn’t the government have staggered the increase (just like they did in 2004), raising it by 1% first, and then maybe another 1% a year or 2 later?

Why 2% at one go?…

Singaporeans are all going to pay for it.  We are going to get runaway inflation in Singapore.   Just watch.  We will all going to pay for it.

The day we will run out of “Days”
7 April, 2008, 3:57 pm

i find it strange (and ridiculous!) how people are assigning a special “Day” to commenorate anything from occpuations to diseases, and now, in fact, any trendy topic is given a “Day” of its own!!

Haven’t we already have enough of man-made festivals / events to observe?  Father’s Day and Mother’s Day are fine.   So are Teachers’ Day and Youth Day.  Of cousre, Valentine’s Day is recognised and celebrated worldwide.  But we started having Bosses’ Day, Secretaries’ Day, Lawyers’ Day… and soon, unbelievably, even Postman’s Day and Chef’s Day

I have nothing against these occupations.  Every job is a professional and respectable occupation.

But I cannot understand why they should assign a special “Day” to every occupation?  If every occupation is going to have it’s own “Day”, then we will run out of days per year to celebrate.

Now, even illnesses have their day in the sun.  We have TB dayDiabetes Day and even Eye Glaucoma Day!!  Please, there are thousands of diseases in the world, how can we finish assigning a “Day” to every one of them??  (By the way, how come there’s no SARS Day?)

Next we have hot topics that also get their own “Day”.  There is already Human Rights DayInternational Left Handers Day, Health Day, and even Intellectual Property Rights Day.

Seems like we have a ridiculous habit of coining a special “Day” for any and every trendy “flavour-of-the-month” topic!  We have an Earth Day, everyone knows that.  It’s part of the environmental drive to save the earth.  OK, we’ll accept that.

But in a sign that we are indeed running out of “Days” to assign to some event or topic (without overlapping and using the same day twice), we have now zeroed in on the HOUR !!

The world ridiculously observed an “Earth Hour” two saturdays ago.. on 29 March 2008.

So paranoid “Day-coining” folks are celebrating the fact that they now have 24 times the number of days to assign to some silly topic, occupation or what not.  (24 X 365 days = 8,760).

In a day, the foolish will have 24 hours to celebrate, or do what not.  But in just one hour????  What can they possibly do in one hour?

How much electricity can we save in just one hour?  Even if the whole world shut off all power for 1 hour per year, it’s only for one hour.  And it’s only once per year.   That’s 0.01% of annual electricity consumption!! – It ain’t going to bring oil prices down.  And it ain’t gonna make any difference.  It’s just so stupid.

Let’s STOP this silly assigning of Days (now, hours) to every damn topic or issue that exists in the world.

Mandarin Music

Say no to piracy!

We see and hear that all over the place. But recently I went past my sister’s room and heard the most disgusting and revolting song ever. It was a mandarin song… with an english song’s tune. I then asked my sister about the song, and if all mandarin songs nowadays were just chinese words with english songs’ tunes. I haven’t listened to mandarin music in years anyway.

I then flipped through her playlist, randomly selecting songs and listening to them. And to my utter disgust, heard more mandarin songs with english songs’ tunes. My sister, and lots of others like her, can be forgiven for thinking those tunes were original and nice to listen to. But to an oldies’ buff like me, I could tell at once that those mandarin songs were just voice overs in mandarin for old english songs.

I can’t believe purists in the music industry can take such lying down. Such lack of creativity. Such lack of talent. They expect us to pay top dollar for songs now that have been produced 10 years ago? When we can just download them for free over the Internet? If so, then they must not be very intelligent… which would also explain the lack of original content in those mandarin songs.

Why should we pay for something that isn’t original anyway? They might pay royalties to the songs that they voice over, but that isn’t original, that isn’t talent. That’s just skiving. Don’t get me wrong. I like and enjoy mandarin songs. Those about 2 or 3 years back, and those of about 10 years ago too. But the quality of a lot of mandarin songs nowadays is just nonsense. I’m not generalizing and condemning mandarin songs, but they shouldn’t be taking english songs, re-recording them, and expecting us to pay for that.

Take for example, Dragostea Din Tei is a Romanian hit single by a Moldovan band called O-zone, made popular in Singapore by the Chicken Little movie. Dragostea Din Tei is loosely translated into English as “Love at first sight” or “Love from the clear blue sky”.

Some retarded Singaporean Chinese female singer, who might not even have the slightest clue as to where / what Moldova is, had to go spoil the true meaning of that song by dubbing it in mandarin into some song depicting her lack of fear of cockroaches. What originality?! What creativity?! What rubbish.

Seriously. You expect purists to pay for a romantic Romanian love song, sung in mandarin depicting the singer’s lack of fear in cockroaches?! You expect to stamp out piracy with such quality?!

Dream on.

Save the Earth

It getting really warm each day.
I hate it when people don’t bother.
Hey please, you are not an alien right?
Not somewhere in mars or pluto.
You’re living on Earth.

You know why supermarkets are introducing recycling bags?
That’s because plastic bags are non-biodegradable.
Some aunties just don’t understand.
And even quarrel with the cashier just because plastic bags costs 10 cents each on recycling day.

And sometimes when I know my friends switched on their aircon daily, I’ll sure nagged at them.
Seems as if they can’t live without aircon.
That’s ridiculous ok. Then move to north pole instead.

The ice are melting.. And Bangladesh is flooded every year.
They can’t grow rice.  And here we are wasting food and resources.
I hate to say this. But it’s the truth.

So what we are richer? Some things can’t be undone.
Not tomorrow. But take action  NOW!
Please don’t let this happen. =((

Iced Coffee

Why does iced coffee cost more than normal coffee?

It just has a bigger cup, some ice (which is basically frozen water, which is cheap), and less coffee! At least in my opinion based on breadboard’s drinks stall.

I’ve been consuming coffee more and more often, as I get less and less sleep, mainly due to the project submissions. And as I buy more and more coffee, I realise that I do not get the logic of having to pay more for less.

Does anyone have any idea or opinion to this issue? I really find it very intriguing…

And I also realise there’s a venting machine that sells canned drinks cheaper than outside near the lifts at block 23.
