About a month ago, i noticed this strange looking sculpture was erected at the West gate entrance of Temasek Poly.
what a weird piece, maybe even a bit obscene. I don’t know… depends on your interpretation of it.
Take a look…what do u think it represents?….

Have you seen elephant paint?
Now..watch this video where an elephant who was rescued from abusive treatment in Burma, now paint an amazing self portrait. You’ll be amazed at how her talent unfolds.
ExoticWorldGifts.com now supports, “Starving Elephant Artisans” by selling their paintings so they can continue to have a new life in Thailand.
Amazing talent isn’t it???
Many say that it is all in psychology. How well they are rewarded due to their training… some argue that it is an abuse.
It is simply irritating when I saw one of the comments which one person commented that animals are low retards..and they cant possibly able to apint or do anything like humans do unless they are being abused to doing it.
In my opinion…..
What that person said is
a TOTAL BULLSHIT.
Animals are not retards. They are smart. And from what I know, maybe they have what scientists called, “Mirror neurons.”
Scientists have been experimenting on monkeys, to investigate mirror neurons and how those neurons are fired whenever they saw a human pick up a peanut, the neuron “mirrors” the behavior of another animal, as though the observer were itself acting.
Don’t understand what I’m talking about? Go read it up.
But in my view, I think it is based on this mirror neuron concept that the elephant was able to paint herself, through the imitation by watching how human paints.
I dunno if this concept can be applied to elephants as from what I know…it is tested that it is applied to monkeys, humans and most birds.
Maybe elephants do have mirror neuron system?
A debate/discussion about this is always welcome. =)
