The non-halal mistake

During my org com presentation, we got this sentence in our letter of request. It says..
We also hope that you can recommend some non-halal food for our Muslim colleagues.”

When my classmate said this sentence, I noticed one of my malay classmate’s reaction.
I guess he was almost dozing off. When he suddenly heard this sentence..
His eyes almost popped out. His reaction was really funny.
And I did know what wrong at first.

Anyway, the mistake made was unintentional.
No one in my group actually realise this.
Hope muslims are not offended.

Anyway I found out the meaning of halal.
This term is used to describe anything permissible under Islamic law.
So I learn something today. Don’t ever make the same mistake again.

The time has come

every semester, for sure, this is the period where everyone is very stressed and go home late staying in sch to do assignmetns and projects, studying for quizzes. a living example is me. This whole week i have been trying to complete assignments and projects, study for quizzes that looked lyk its impossible to pass. The thing is, once u clear one, another one comes in. i guess that the retrbution of not starting projs early. But hu can i blame.

I guess its not onli me, there are lot n lots of ppl hu are encountering the same thing as me. But thats the way students are, if students start working on the projects on the day they receive, then students are not students anymore. hahaha. the thing is, no matter hw stressed up how much we complain, somehw students are able the meet the deadline as they dun wan to be marked down due to late submission. So lecturers, give faith to your students, and students, do not abuse the faith thats given to you. hahaha. Gd luck for eveyone thats in the same situation as me ^^

today is already the last day for year 2.2 students to chose thier major project/student-internship-programme (mp-sip). But i heard alot ppl still dun haf groups or still cannot decide which competency unit to go to. Well, its a hard decision as it will affect your mp grades and its lyk…12 cus…12CUs!!. tts lyk alot alot alot hahaha. But, this kind of things, haf to count greatly on luck. If u get real nice partners tat you can work well with and both of you are gd at the area u chose to do…then im quite sure u can do very well for it. on the other hand if ppl are individual and thier groups are randomed, then u wun noe u will be grouped with hu and might not work well with person. So…gd luck ppl

JAE

Last Friday, I had the opportunity to help promote my diploma for the JAE admission exercise. Well I don’t know about the others but my CP volunteered me to help attract ‘O’ level school leavers into my course.

Well during the day, I must say the students I spoke to there all seem really keen on entering TP, and some had already made up their minds on what courses they want. I even spoke to one who lives all the way in Bukit Gombak who had come to TP to specially check out a few courses. I was helping out in the afternoon shift, and had spoken to a number of ‘O’ level through the course of my shift and by 2.30pm, was feeling proud of being part of an educational institution that is Temasek Polytechnic.

Never have I see so many students so keen on enrolling with Temasek Polytechnic that it made me feel a little sad on thinking that I’ll be graduating soon. But of course, that feeling only lasted the afternoon. I’m very excited about continuing with the rest of my life journey with the diploma TP has bestowed upon me.

The industry better keep an eye out for Temasek Polytechnic graduates that are going to climb up the corporate ladder, as a whole new batch of us are graduating real soon!

Chess Boxing

I was surfing the Internet a few days back and came across a very interesting website about a sport I’ve never heard before… Chessboxing!

The basic idea in chessboxing is to combine the #1 thinking sport and the #1 fighting sport into a hybrid that demands the most of its competitors – both mentally and physically.

In a chessboxing fight 2 opponents play alternating rounds of chess and boxing. The contest starts with a round of chess, followed by a boxing round, followed by another round of chess and so on. The contest consists of 11 rounds, 6 rounds of chess, 5 rounds of boxing. A round of chess takes 4 minutes. Each competitor has 12 minutes on the chess timer.

A round of boxing takes 3 minutes. Between rounds there is a 1 minute pause, during which competitors change their gear. The contest is decided by: checkmate (chess round), exceeding the time limit (chess round), retirement of an opponent (chess or boxing round), KO (boxing round), or referee decision (boxing round). If the chess game ends in a stalement, the opponent with the higher score in boxing wins. If there is an equal score, the opponent with the black pieces wins.

Upcoming locations planned for chessboxing events in 2008 include Los Angeles, Paris, Prague, Zurich and Moscow. Too bad Singapore is too small to be considered, otherwise it sure will be interesting to see such an intellectual and physical sport.

My annual pilgrimage

Annually, I would take my pilgrimage to Singapore softball’s hottest event, which used to be called the SRC games. It was held annually at the Singapore Recreational Club till they decided to shift it to a cheaper venue - the Kallang Baseball Diamond. This event happens every year during the weekends of primary / secondary / JC March holidays.

Every year, all the softballers in Singapore would gather at the Singapore Recreational Club to play a series of friendly matches in the spirit of softball, although certain rivalries ensured certain matches weren’t so friendly. I still remember the days of RJC vs HCJC (it was still called HCJC in those days), where the rivalry and history was so strong almost every enthusiastic softball took sides.

All matches were played in a round-robin series and RJC vs HCJC would always be the last match of the SRC games - the finals. And every enthusiastic player would be cheering on either team. Although in my opinion, RJC was the more arrogant team, it was HCJC who had more wins against RJC. They both were really good teams and I had the opportunity to join either JC for softball training after my prelims. Well, I made a decision at that time and the first 3 months were definitely the best years of my life as a softballer, being able to play with the best players of my age in Singapore.

It’s been years since I last touched a softball / baseball, and I think my leather glove has grown mushrooms in my cupboard, but my enthusiasm for softball will never die.

I can’t wait till March 2008!

Iced Coffee

Why does iced coffee cost more than normal coffee?

It just has a bigger cup, some ice (which is basically frozen water, which is cheap), and less coffee! At least in my opinion based on breadboard’s drinks stall.

I’ve been consuming coffee more and more often, as I get less and less sleep, mainly due to the project submissions. And as I buy more and more coffee, I realise that I do not get the logic of having to pay more for less.

Does anyone have any idea or opinion to this issue? I really find it very intriguing…

And I also realise there’s a venting machine that sells canned drinks cheaper than outside near the lifts at block 23.
