Do we need a smoking MP?
As I took a walk from Shenton Way to Raffles place MRT station today after work, I passed by some buildings. Along those buildings were smoking areas; Ugly yellow boxes painted on the ground, dictating smokers to be within their boundaries. There was only a small tin box for you to put out your cigarette in and all of those boxes were overflowing with cigarette butts.
From a certain point of view, I do think its an insult for bankers / corporate executives, who make thousands and thousands of dollars monthly to be constrained within the yellow boxes. They are the movers and shakers of Singapore’s economy and contribute to its GDP. And to take a break from a stressful day at work, they’ve to stand inside a tiny yellow box to take a tobacco-filled breath of air. And to top it all off, those smoking areas didn’t have shelter and are left to the mercy of the weather. What if it rained? Then those white-collared workers won’t be able to smoke, as there’re no yellow boxes in the building.
By saying this, I’m indirectly suggestive that the government might be too harsh on smokers already. But what if we had more members of parliament smoking..?

Another day of headaches
Another day at work, another day of headaches.
Work this semester break is tougher than my previous semesters. This time I’ve more reports and research to do. And unfortunately for me, the management tools that I’ve to research and type a report on are all really new tools, thus researching them is tough. (An internet business suggestion to entrepreneurs out there reading this - You’ll probably make a lot of money from having a website documenting the latest management tools in the different industries)
Well anyway, sitting and reading though tonnes and tonnes of raw information sure makes me bored after a few days. I enjoy doing research but in this case, I must say its really tough at even google or yahoo! can help much. I’ve to dig through whitepapers and ebooks and even the occasional webcast to find raw information, from which I’ve to process and transform into a report for my boss.
The good thing would be that I’m learning a lot and am at the forefront of the management tools. But the bad thing would be that I’m under pressure to produce a good report on topics that have yet been extensively studied on yet.

MP / SIP

As part of my Major Project, I managed to arrange for my group to attend an event last Sunday where our booth was visited by GRC leaders and Member of Parliament, Dr Fatimah Lateef. We hope to improve our booth layout and system of ordering for our involvement in an upcoming Golf event where another VIP will be present. I’m kind of excited over the next event as a minister will be present, but its going to be hush-hush for now till the event on 11 September. The attached picture shows my team booth with the Member of Parliament holding one of our products. Check out what my Major Project is buzzing up next at www.mosquito-dx.com and let me know what you think!
