Back to work

My SIP ended last Friday and I’ve been back at work since Tuesday. The moment my boss heard that my SIP had ended, she immediately arranged for me to be back at work. I got a pay rise and a leather thumbdrive and a laptop to aid me in my work.

Yesterday was my first day back at work and I didn’t hit the ground running. So much work was piled upon me that I even had to take some work home to do as I couldn’t complete it all at work. So, my new leather thumbdrive came in handy. I quality-checked 2 reputable corporate websites, did some copywriting for them, did research on Converged Network Management and had to come up with a draft report for the technical and business aspects of it. My mind was in a mess by the time I left work. And after work, I rushed down to Tanglin Mall to meet a client for their website specification and content.

Today isn’t any better. The moment I stepped into the office, my boss piled more work on me. I had to continue on my draft report on CNM and start on a “Needs for Solutions” multimedia report for another huge company, which I can’t disclose. And for lunch, I strolled over to the controversial Buddha Tooth Relic Temple by South Bridge Road to eat and check out the multi-million dollar building. Unfortunately the giant tooth was locked up and not accessible to the public. After lunch, I took a quick walk around Ann Siang Hill before heading back to the office.

In an era which students take part-time jobs to supplement their pocket money, I do wonder if the stress accompanied by the work is necessary…

How Much Sleep Do You Really Need? Although many factors influence how much sleep you really need, the common recommendation is eight hours a night. But individual needs vary greatly.

Although many factors influence how much sleep you really need, most young adults report sleeping about seven and a half hours on weekday nights and eight and a half hours on weekend nights. And the common recommendation is eight hours a night. But individual needs vary greatly. There are so-called short-sleepers and long-sleepers — those who need as little as five and a half hours to as much as about nine and a half hours.

Your Sleep Debt

OK, so how do you determine how much sleep you really need?

First, let’s look at your bank account — your sleep bank account, that is — and see if you have a debt to pay. Throughout the day, you take out about eight hours from this account, generating a sleep debt. Over the course of the night, as you snooze, you replenish your account. If you sleep only, say, six and a half hours, you still owe one and a half hours. If you do this for five nights in a row, you have lost an entire night’s sleep! You will then need extra sleep over the next few days to replenish your sleep debt.

How much sleep do you get — do you have a sleep debt? Do this simple test: Starting on a Sunday, do not drink alcohol or caffeine; do not smoke; go to sleep about the same time every night; and get an uninterrupted seven to eight hours of sleep for the next six nights. Then, on Saturday morning, sleep in. See how long your body will let you sleep. If you sleep longer than you did during the week — then you have a sleep debt. So you should consider getting more sleep each night to replenish that sleep debt. Hey, not so easy, you say. Well, give it a try and do the best you can. Why?

Not getting the proper amount of and the best quality sleep may have serious consequences. Many studies have shown that sleep deprivation adversely affects performance and alertness. Reducing sleep by as little as one and a half hours for just one night reduces daytime alertness by about one-third. Excessive daytime sleepiness impairs memory and the ability to think and process information, and contributes to a substantially increased risk of sustaining an occupational injury.

The bottom line is that you should wake up feeling relatively refreshed, and you should generally not feel sleepy during the day. If this is not the case, you may have an unrecognized sleep disorder and should see your doctor or a sleep specialist.

Students in Engineering pay school fees to do project, in other words, we are not paid to do projects for companies. Why is it so?

I’ve heard from my course mates that Temasek Engineering School is the first priority to be assign to industrial projects because companies doesn’t have to dig out money and pay us. As said always “experience are more valuable than money”, so can i hire all the Engineering students as my employees if i set up a company in future? haha!

Can someone please advise. :)

Alright, though exam’s is over & life has been very much relaxing now, I seriously feel very bored at home. No one to go out with, no job yet. Everything is so boring at home. Stared hard at the desktop & enduring my mum’s constant nagging. GOD DAMN IT. I want to go out! ha! & I gonna go for a 4 days camp tml. Camp 500. anyone missed it? still not too late to turn up on thursday.

Anyway, due to boredom, came across this hmm. story? haha. It’s a little long, but just bear with it and read, the ending is really cool. Well.. enjoy.

A romantic yet horror love story

A certain rich businessman had a beautiful daughter, who fell in love with a
guy who was a cleaner. When the girl’s father came to know about their love, he
did not like it at all, and so began to protest about it.
Now it happened that the two lovers decided to leave their homes for a
happy future. The girl’s father started searching for the two lovers but could
not find them.
At last, he accepted their love and asked them to come back home in a local
newspaper. Her father said “If you both come back I will allow you to marry the
guy you love, I accept that you loved each other truly.”
So in this way, their love won and they returned home. The couple went to
town to shop for the wedding dress. He was dressed in white shirt that day.
While he was crossing the road to the other side to get some drinks for his
wife, a car came and hit him and he died on the spot. The girl lost her senses.
It was only after sometimes that she recovered from her shocked.
The funeral and cremation was the very next day because he had died horribly.
Two nights later, the girl’s mother had a dream in which she saw an old lady. The old lady asked her mother to wash the blood stains of the guy from her daughter’s dress as soon as possible. But her mother ignored the dream. The next night her father had the same dream, he also ignored it. Then when the girl had the same dream the next night, she woke up in fear and told her mother about the dream. Her mother asked her to wash the clothes which have blood stains immediately. She washed the stains but some remained. Next night she again had the same dream she again washed the stains but some still remained.
Next night she again had the same dream and this time the old lady gave her
a last warning to wash the blood stain, or else something terrible will happen.
This time the girl tried her best to wash the stains, and the clothes nearly
tore, but some stains still remained.
In the late evening the same day while she was alone at home, someone
knocked the door. When she opened the door she saw the same old lady of her
dream standing at her door. She got very scared and fainted. The old lady woke
her up… and gave her a blue object, which shocked the girl.
She asked “What is this…?”
The old lady replied “Try DYNAMO Liquid Soap… just a dab and
it will remove all stubborn stains!!!
” …

Ok, I admit it was a little RANDOM. DUMB. & LAME. haha.

Well ok, can someone ask me out someday!? urgh.
Utterly bored today. hah was lucky someone wanted to swim, i gladly accepted it. wow couldnt believe that i managed to complete 18 laps today. my usuals are 12 in 1 hour( i know its slow but well, i took time and swim leisurely.) Theres this weird thing… i managed to pass my silver swimming test, without even knowing freestyle( like wtf?)! yea. i did everything including backstroke everything. except freestyle. dunno why just couldnt do it. urgh!

oh welll…… =)

Want to go abroad to work?

Should you venture overseas as part of the school’s Overseas Student Internship Programme?

Be it a developed country or developing country, I think there is a winning situation present in both cultures. To sum it all up in two sentences; when your attachment is in a developed country, you learn to nurtured quality into all your work. When your attachment is in a developing country, you are deemed to have quality in all your work.

Today, over coffee, my internship Vietnamese (developing country) ex-boss deemed my team to have presented quality in all our work and was impressed enough to offer to fly us to Vietnam 4 more time over the next 2 months at an all expenses paid trip just to give a speech during their events, hinting of potential job opportunities with them.

Our unanimous decision was to not accept her offer because being a developing country also meant that various legal issues and IP issues are not established or practised in the country and working ethics would contrast with a foreigner like us. I’ve met foreign teachers in Vietnam who found themselves bounded by a contract that exploited their time and labour, but terminating it would cost them over half their annual salary.

Conclusion, get attached overseas but be wary of signing the dotted line.
