World Cup “live” @ TP

TP seems to be quite happening lately.  We caught the World Cup fever.  It’s spreading like wildfire in our campus.

Last Friday nite, the WCup matches (Germany vs Argentina, and Italy vs Ukraine) were screen live on super BIG screen at TP’s Convention Centre to an audience of more than 1,000 screaming fans.Heard that some outsiders tried to gate-crash the event, but were turned away.  (Sorry, TP family members only!).  We did, however, invite some sec school students as our very special guests who joined us for the event!

The exciting bash was reported on TV last night, and here’s the report from Channel NewsAsia’s website:…

Poly holds World Cup “Pyjama Party” for 600 students
By Valarie Tan, Channel NewsAsia (3 July 2006)

The World Cup fever is hotting up the world over, with matches now at the quarter-final stage. Some 600 secondary school students attended a World Cup “Pyjama Party” at the Temasek Polytechnic on Friday.

They got to watch the Argentina-Germany and the Italy-Ukraine matches live.

The polytechnic organised the event as part of a one-day football mania camp for secondary school students.

And the young soccer fans really had a ball of a time, especially for supporters of Germany and Italy – the teams who made it to the semi-finals. – CNA/ir

Also reported in The New Paper (3 July, page 14), Beritan Harian and local Chinese newspapers.really happening siah…

England 1 – Portugal 3

For me, the game was over the moment the match went into penalty kicks.  i switched off my TV and went to bed.  Why?  because the outcome is foregone conclusion.

England doesn’t know how to take penalties.  It’s unbelievable, but the English are famous for doing things the hardest way, and confronted with a simple way out, they are lost.  Look at how hard they struggle to score a goal, but with the goalmouth wide open in front of them, the can do anything except sore.

So, the English somehow felt that they had to live up to their reputation.  It would not be nice to break with tradition, afterall, they have never won a penalty shootout except only once in their history of international football.

However, a big questions remains…

Why did England team NOT practise taking penalties, knowing full well that their match would go penalty kicks?

the food critic for this week

yopes.. It’s Kevyyn again!! I will be bringing you the freshest, most up-to-date food critics so that you can know where to get the best food around!!

the food this week is: the ban-mee in Mensa 1.

situated beside the fountain, you could admire the water spraying like no-body’s business and eat at the same time. okay. let’s talk about the food. this stall can be found at the noodles stall in mensa, just beside the chinese cooked food stall.

this wonderful places sells all sorts of noodles, dumplings and hor-fun’s. and the best part is that, it is value for $$. Goes easy on your pocket while you can have good food at the same time.

this stall serves 3 types of ban-mee. the fish one, meat, and another one the seafood. as the fish one is one of the best, I shall start the ball rolling by the fish one first. When I ordered it for the first time, I got a shock. I got the whole big bowl of ban mee, fully stuffed with handmade noodles, veggies, crabstick, tofu and sea-weed, eggs AND special soy-bean soup base for only 2 bucks!! how cheap is that?? okay. now the taste test. and we shall see. muah ha ha ha…

let’s first talk about the soup base. it is light, non-oily, yet sweet. the soup has also a light ’sea’ flavour to it caused by the crabstck and the seaweed in the soup. very light and one word that is tasty-des!! the handmade noodles are chewey and full of flavour from the soup base!! super tasty!! taste to believe. s5001735.JPG

needless to say, the rating for this dish is quite high. and I call in the results!! the dis will be judged according to these 5 criterias: aesthetics- how is the decoration of the dish; taste- how tasty it is to the taste buds; value- whether it is value for money and; waiting time- how long do you have to wait for the food

all stars out of 5

aesthetics: ***

taste: ****

value for money: ****+1/2

waiting time:***+1/2
